If you are using an OnePlus 5T Android smartphone and looking for a way to root it, you are on the right page. Follow the step by step instructions given here carefully to install TWRP recovery and root OnePlus 5T device.
Once you gain root privileges on your device, you will be able to remove pre-installed Android applications, install custom ROM firmware, etc.
WARNING: Rooting your OnePlus 5T smartphone will void its warranty, and you won’t be able to claim it unless you unroot your device. So, think well about it before getting started with the rooting procedure.
Prerequisites:
Step 1: Make sure that you take a complete backup of personal data on your OnePlus 5T device.
Step 2: Once done, follow our guide on how to unlock bootloader on OnePlus 5T to unlock its bootloader.
Step 3: Now, download OnePlus 5T USB driver and install it on your Windows computer. If you don’t install the USB driver of your device on Windows, then you will not be able to connect your smartphone to it.
Step 4: Next, enable “Developer Options” by following this path: Settings -> About Phone -> Build Number (tap on it for 7 times). Once Developer Options setting is enabled, enable “USB Debugging”, “OEM Unlock” and “Advanced Reboot” by following this path: Settings -> Developer Options.
Step 5: Ensure that your smartphone has at least 50-60% battery backup. Once done, uninstall the antivirus applications from your Windows computer as they tend to interrupt the rooting procedure.

Tutorial To Install TWRP Recovery on OnePlus 5T:
Step 1: To get started, download Minimal ADB and Fastboot and install it on your Windows computer. Once done, download OnePlus 5T TWRP recovery and save it in the installation folder of Minimal ADB and Fastboot on your computer.
Step 2: Now, launch Minimal ADB and Fastboot Window. Once done, connect your OnePlus 5T smartphone to the computer using the original USB data cable.
Step 3: Next, reboot your smartphone to the fastboot / bootloader mode by entering the following command in Minimal ADB and Fastboot window:
adb reboot bootloader
Step 4: Now, flash TWRP recovery by entering the following command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Step 5: Once the TWRP custom recovery flashing process is finished, enter the following command to boot into the recovery of your device:
fastboot boot recovery.img
Step 6: Now your device will boot into TWRP recovery. While doing so, you will see the “Swipe to Allow Modifications” message. Swipe that bar to allow system modifications. Once you do that, TWRP recovery will become the default recovery on your OnePlus 5T smartphone.
Step 7: To finish, unplug your smartphone from the computer.

Tutorial To Root OnePlus 5T:
Step 1: To get started, download Magisk Manager APK and install it on your OnePlus 5T smartphone.
Step 2: Once installed, launch the Magisk Manager app. Once the app is launched, you will see the “Install Magisk” prompt message. Click on “Install” and choose “Download Zip Only” in the Select Method screen.
Step 3: Once Magisk file is downloaded, reboot your OnePlus 5T smartphone into the recovery mode by pressing and holding the Volume Down and Power buttons.
Step 4: Now in the TWRP recovery screen, click on “Install” and select the download Magisk ZIP file in your device. Once you do that, Magisk will be installed on your OnePlus 5T device.
Step 5: To finish, click on “Reboot System” to reboot your device.
