Are you using an OnePlus 5 Android smartphone? Are you searching for a way to unlock the bootloader of your device? If yes is your answer to both of these questions, then you are on the right page. Just follow the guide given here to unlock bootloader on OnePlus 5 successfully.
Once you unlock bootloader on your OnePlus 5 device, you can install TWRP recovery and root your device.
WARNING: Unlocking bootloader on OnePlus 5 smartphone will void its warranty. Also, if you don’t follow the procedure given here carefully, you might brick your device. So, if anything bad happens to your smartphone, don’t hold me liable.
Prerequisites:
Step 1: Before getting started with the bootloader unlocking process, make sure that you take a complete backup of personal data on your OnePlus 5 device.
Step 2: Now, download OnePlus 5 USB driver and install it on your Windows computer. If you don’t install USB driver of your device on Windows, then you will not be able to connect your smartphone to it.
Step 3: Next, enable “Developer Options” by following this path: Settings -> About Phone -> Build Number (tap on it for 7 times). Once Developer Options setting is enabled, enable “USB Debugging”, “OEM Unlock” and “Advanced Reboot” by following this path: Settings -> Developer Options.
Step 4: At last, ensure that your device has at least 50-60% battery backup. Make sure that you have uninstalled antivirus applications from your Windows computer as they tend to interrupt the bootloader unlocking process.
Once you have finished all these prerequisites, you can move forward to the tutorial given below.
Tutorial To Unlock Bootloader on OnePlus 5:
Step 1: To get started, download Minimal ADB and Fastboot and install it on your Windows computer. Once done, launch its window.
Step 2: Now, connect your OnePlus 5 smartphone to the computer using the original USB data cable. Next, enter the following command in Minimal ADB and Fastboot command prompt window to reboot your device into the bootloader/fastboot mode.
adb reboot bootloader
Step 3: Once your device boots into the bootloader mode, enter the following command in the Minimal ADB and Fastboot command prompt window.
fastboot devices
If you can see the serial number of your smartphone, as shown in the screenshot below, you can continue to the next step. Or else, disconnect your device from the computer and reinstall the USB driver again.
Step 4: Now, unlock bootloader of your OnePlus 5 smartphone by entering the following command:
fastboot oem unlock
Once you enter the above command, a security message page will open on your device. Use the volume control buttons to select “Yes” and click on the power button to confirm it.
Step 5: Your device will reboot into the stock recovery and wipe all personal data. Once done, it will reboot into the Android OS.
