Motorola Droid Turbo 2 is a high-quality Android smartphone, which comes with a 5.4-inch touchscreen display, powered by 1.5 GHz Octa-core processor along with 3 GB RAM and the device runs on Android v7.0 (Nougat) operating system. If you are using this smartphone and looking for a way to root it, you are in the right place as I have given a tutorial to root Motorola Droid Turbo 2 here.
By following the rooting tutorial given here, you will be able to root Motorola Droid Turbo 2 smartphone without using a computer. Once the device is rooted, you can be able to install custom recoveries, remove unwanted pre-installed applications, install custom-built Android apps, etc.
WARNING: Rooting your Motorola Droid Turbo 2 smartphone will null its warranty, and you won’t be able to claim it until you unroot your device. So, think well about this before getting started with the rooting procedure.
Prerequisites:
Step 1: The rooting procedure given here is not a data-loss process, but it is safe to take a complete backup of your data on your smartphone. So, take it using appropriate apps.
Step 2: Make sure that your smartphone has at least 50-60% of battery backup in it as the rooting process is a time-consuming one.
Step 3: Now, enable “Unknown Sources” by following this path: Settings -> Security -> Unknown Sources. Only by enabling this option, your device will allow installation of apps from unknown sources.
After finishing all these prerequisites, you can move forward to the rooting tutorial given below.
Tutorial To Root Motorola Droid Turbo 2:
Step 1: To get started, download Kingroot app to your Motorola Droid Turbo 2 device. Once downloaded, tap on kingroot.apk to install the app on your smartphone.
Step 2: After installing kingroot, launch it on your device. Since your device is not rooted, you will get the following message: Root Access Is Unavailable.
Step 3: Now, click on “Start Root” blue button to begin the rooting process. During the rooting process, you will get the following message: Rooting. Plz, don’t worry if your device reboot.
Step 4: Once the rooting process is finished, you will get the following message: Root Successfully.
That’s it. Now you have successfully finished rooting Motorola Droid Turbo 2 without the computer. For confirmation, open up your Apps menu and look for the KingUser app. If you can find it there, your device is successfully rooted. Alternatively, you can confirm the root privileges of your smartphone by using the Root Checker app.
If you would like to replace the KingUser app (installed by Kingroot) with SuperSU, follow our guide to replace KingUser with SuperSU. Also, if you would like to unroot Motorola Droid Turbo 2 smartphone, you can follow our guide to remove kinguser and unroot Android device.
If you own a smartphone or tablet other than Motorola Droid Turbo 2 and would like to get rooting tutorials for the same, kindly visit our Rooting Tutorials page.
If you encounter any issues while following this rooting procedure, do let me know via comments.

Followed all preliminary steps. Downloaded app and tried it…phone still not rooted. Are multiple attempts required or something?

What error are you getting?
Pete says
Upon launching Kingroot 4.0.. I get the following.. “Root Strategy Unavailable. No Strategy now.”. And I also see “10294 Requests received. Research is accelerating for you.”
I have made 2 previous attempts to root. It stated my phone was unable to be rooted, but showed a button stating “Try this strategy” or something to that effect. Again, I’m on a Droid Turbo 2, running Android 7.0.

Has ANYONE gotten this to work?
Sathishkumar Varatharajan says
It is working properly for us.

If it is working for you, YOU ARE NOT USING A VERIZON CHIPPED , US MARKET DROID TURBO 2. Don’t tell me it is working for you on this phone, BECAUSE IT’S NOT. You’re either using a Moto X (NO BOOT LOCK CHIP), or you’re using a non-US market Turbo 2, OR you’re a liar. Take your pick.

Very well. Thank you for finally confirming. This should have been done prior to you posting your website. Very misleading. For the sake of integrity, you really should remove any and all sites or references entitled “How to root Droid Turbo 2” or “Tutorial to Root Droid Turbo 2”, since the information and processes you have published, have now been proven to be inherently false.

Didn’t work for me as well. Same issues as those above.

This is my first post and I have no idea what I’m doing so please correct me if I’m doing something wrong. I am trying to root my Droid Turbo 2 using KingRoot/KingoRoot. Every time I get to 26% it skips to 100% and then says the root failed. I saved the log, so I can post it if someone wants to see it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

As of 04/14/218 it is still not working. (Android 7.0; / Security Patch 10/1/17) Also there is no “Clear Data” tab on the “Settings/Apps?Kingroot” page. Admit it, Motorola has defeated you.

No you have not got it to work. You are not able to root the DT2 this way. Do a bit more research within the phone. There you will find what your looking for. King-Bloat is nothing more than a foreign app that corrupts your phone with spyware and useless malicious apps. I posted once on how to obtain root and it was removed. So now I say good luck to all. It is possible.

No it’s not working…
I’ve tried everything imaginable without a computer. Even with a terminal. No one click is gonna root the DT2 without a PC at least.
Sathishkumar Varatharajan says
What error are you getting?
Az says
Error? Maybe this was at least POSSIBLE with Lollipop (if the DT2 even came with lollipop) or Marshmallow, but definitely not on Nougat 7.0. “No root method exists for your device at this time.”
“Send request”
“33 received”
lol
Just saw on XDA and not even that old of a post, couple months, but there’s STILL a bounty for the first to achieve root and was at that time at least over 1,700. lol
No way kingroot or Kingo or Vroot or One click root or Framaroot or Poot or any other one click methods obviously work if theres still a bounty.
All about getting paid for adds and nothing more if ya ask me…
skyhack says
It WILL NOT WORK on a Verizon Droid Turbo 2 marketed in the US.
Don’t bother. You cannot root the Verizon US-marketed Turbo 2 (A MOTO X Force everywhere else), because there is a bootcode chip in the device that prevents it.
Sathishkumar is probably NOT running a US market Verizon phone.
When XDA posts a fix, that’s the place to go.
Sathishkumar Varatharajan says
Hi, First Your device is getting Unlock Bootloader After trying this method, It is working properly for us.
skyhack says
Are you using a US market Droid Turbo 2?
skyhack says
On the Verizon US market Droid Turbo 2, the boot sector is HARDWARE locked. The BIOS is normal for a Droid, but the Turbo 2 adds a chip that will not allow rooting the device. The only way to defeat that is to remove that chip, or, if it is programmable, to re-program the chip. Good luck with either.

Root progress gets to 43% progress on my Droid Turbo 2 and root fails. Says I have 5261 requests in queue. What does that mean? More file cleaning to be done?
