ZTE Maven 2 (Z831) is a quality Android smartphone, which comes with 5 inches touchscreen display powered by 1100 MHz quad-core processor along with 1 GB RAM and the device runs on Android Android (6.0) Marshmallow operating system. If you own this device and looking for a quick way to root it, you are on the right page as I have given a step by step tutorial to root ZTE Maven 2 (Z831) here.
By following the instructions given here, you will be able to root ZTE Maven 2 (Z831) successfully. Once you have gained root privileges in your device, you will be able to install custom recovery images, flash custom ROM firmware files, etc.
WARNING: Rooting your ZTE Maven 2 device will void its warranty, and you won’t be able to claim it unless you unroot your device. So think well about it before rooting your device.
Prerequisites:
Step 1: The rooting procedure given here is not a data-loss process, but it is safe to take a complete backup of your personal data on your Smartphone. So, take it using appropriate apps.
Step 2: Make sure that your Smartphone has at least 50-60% of battery backup in it as the rooting process is a time-consuming one.
Step 3: Now, enable “Unknown Sources” by following this path: Settings -> Security -> Unknown Sources. Only by enabling this option, your device will allow installation of apps from unknown sources.
After finishing all these prerequisites, you can move forward to the rooting tutorial given below.
Tutorial To Root ZTE Maven 2 (Z831):
Step 1: To get started, download Kingroot app to your ZTE Maven 2 (Z831) device. Once downloaded, tap on kingroot.apk to install the app on your Smartphone.
Step 2: After installing kingroot, launch it on your device. Since your device is not rooted, you will get the following message: Root Access Is Unavailable.
Step 3: Now, click on “Start Root” blue button to begin the rooting process. During the rooting process, you will get the following message: Rooting. Plz, don’t worry if your device reboot.
Step 4: Once the rooting process is finished, you will get the following message: Root Successfully.
That’s it. Now you have successfully finished rooting ZTE Maven 2 (Z831) without the computer. For confirmation, open up your Apps menu and look for the KingUser app. If you can find it there, your device is successfully rooted. Alternatively, you can confirm the root privileges of your Smartphone by using the Root Checker app.
If you would like to replace the KingUser app (installed by Kingroot) with SuperSU, follow our guide to replace KingUser with SuperSU. Also, if you would like to unroot ZTE Maven 2 (Z831) Smartphone, you can follow our guide to remove kinguser and unroot Android device.
If you own a smartphone or tablet other than ZTE Maven 2 (Z831) and would like to get rooting tutorials for the same, kindly visit our Rooting Tutorials page.
If you encounter any issues while following this rooting procedure, do let me know via comments.
Didn’t root it. I tried both methods and followed the guide.
:/
Thanks for nothing.
I wasn’t able to root my Maven 2 Z831 using either methods either. It is running 6.0.1, Is there something that can be done to get it rooted?
Didn’t root.
Didn’t root for me either. Has anyone figured anything out yet on this?
I think I have tried almost every rooting program that claims to work with this phone. All failed. Only once did the rooting work, then 30 seconds later my phone acted like it crashed and rebooted itself. Root access gone after that. All further attempts failed. I just want to be able to tether or activate wifi hotspot without fighting with the phone company. Which does not allow activation of hotspot with their unlimited data plan, which is what I have…
root ok for me ! thanks
You are Wellcome!
Do you have a ZTE Maven 2 -= Z831 from AT&T? If so how did you get it to root?
I’m guessing all the people that couldn’t root had AT&T phones? From what I can tell, AT&T locks the boot-loader down which prevents permanent rooting, and even with “Allow boot-loader to be unlocked”, the programs can’t unlock it. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Yes, it can be Used.
I can’t get it to root with AT&T as they have locked the bootloader..
Yes, my phone is at&t. I’ve had a successful root ONCE but 30seconds later the phone seemed to crash and rebooted itself.
yes my phone is also AT&T
Yep, no didn’t root my phone. Tried all methods provided. And yes it is the AT&T any suggestions would be appreciated thank you
What error are you getting?
i tried the srs v5.1 runs through and says complete. using root checker for android and says device not rooted. tryed rooting with iroot and rootgenius . rootgenius stated phone to soild to root.i root just stated root failed
Hi follow this procedure.
1) Go to “Settings” and Touch the “Developer Options”
2) Now, You can see the “Root Access Mode” Check The Below Option “Apps and ADB”
3)Once Done, You will Open the Root checker application, That’s it.
I don’t see this under Developer Options at all.
I also have ATT version, I do not see those options in the developer options.
Hi follow this procedure.
1) Settings ->Developer Options -> USB Debugging.
2) If you can’t see the developer options in Settings, enable it by following this path: Settings -> About Phone (tap on the “Build Number” for 5-7 times to enable it), That’s it.
I have tapped it and enabled it and I don’t see anything about Root Access Mode. Are you sure you are working with an AT&T phone?
Yes, it can be Used.
I just tried again and no it doesn’t work.

Hi, after rooting your device, download and install Super User or SuperSU from Google Play Store. Without Superuser or SuperSu, root checker will report that you’re not rooted. If it doesn’t work, root it manually using ADB. That’s it.
It is saying after running SRS then SuperSU there is no binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem?
If you just upgraded to Android 5.0 you need to manually re-root – consult the releveant forums for your device!
So can you give me a tutorial on how to root this manually using ADB? I need to get back in this phone and pull back deleted text messages.
Any help with this Manual install would be appreciated!!!
Where do you find the exploit for the ZTE 831 so it can be installed manually since this program won’t work to root the phone?
Still unable to root the AT&T Maven 831. Has anyone been able to yet? I haven’t gotten any update on how to do this manually but the SRS program isn’t working.
I also tried all methods the internet can offer and my Zte Maven 2 still won’t get rooted. Somebody has to o come up with a way :'(
Hello, but how do you root using ADB?
I tried to figure it out too and he hasn’t given the steps to do this as SRS doesn’t work.
Didnt work for me neither, also using att phone. Would removing the sim card work or nah?
Do I need to remove the Sim to root my mavin 2 zte or not?
Hi, Rooting should have no effect on your sim card, however. Thanks!
This phone is unrootable, and I think maybe it’s just a virus program and this dude just keeps saying “IT WORKS IT WORKS TRUST ME IT WORKS” when really you’re just downloading some random stuff.
Ok I have gotten my att ZTE maven 2 rooted and was able to uninstall some of the bloat ware I used kingroot 5.0 I did have to try over and over and over but it did it once cant get it to do it again it sucks
Did you use the windows version of KingRoot or the Android version?
I have an AT&T phone as well and NONE of this worked. I just want to get rid of all of the bloatware because I can’t download more than one or two apps before there isn’t any room left.
Has anyone found a way to permanently uninstall bloatware without root permission?
I was wondering if anyone has had any luck rooting these phones yet. I have one and need to get rid of all the bloatware.
Nope!
Didn’t root my Att zte 831 maven 2 cellphone
He hasn’t answered in awhile about this and no one has been able to get it to work.
At&t ZTE maven 2 has locked bootloader no root methods will ever work unless the bootloader is unlocked first. All carrier At&t bought are carrier locked will not be able to be rooted until boot loader is unlocked
I have finally got mine unlocked for a short amount of time thru KingRoot. Install on your phone and just keep attempting to root it over and over and it will finally root. It won’t last long but it does finally root. I promise I looked everywhere to get it to work and it finally did. Problem is I wasted so much space and it had overwritten so many of the deleted texts I can’t find a good enough program to pull many texts back and it was never used again after they were deleted but it was from adding programs to root the stupid phone.
Has there been any progress on this. Is there a way to claim the boot Rom now.
hermano quiero reisntalar el andriod en maven z831 que debo hacer
software launches and displays message saying the version is tool old, clicking ok redirects to an infected website!
It worked for me, thanks!
